Archive for February, 2009

Thursday, I finally made it back to InStep to try on some different shoes. And like last year, I stuck with the Asics, going for the updated model of my current shoes. Today’s miles were the first time out in them, and they felt pretty good.  It’s easy to forget how important good [...]

Today was the first day of group training for Team Challenge. Being that the temps outside are still chilly, and we did just have a layer of ice over everything yesterday, we met at the Petit Center, and ran laps there.
We were running for time today, not distance, and that thirty minutes [...]

Running on snow is hard

What are those things called, Yax Trax or something? Maybe I should look into getting a pair after all. Even though the snow is going to melt and be gone soon, right? RIGHT?
I felt lazy this morning and didn’t want to schlep to the gym. Instead, I opted for just running [...]

Runners, save your wrappers!

As runners, we go through all sorts of fuel: bars, gels, beans, blocks. A gel company used to have a program where you could send them X empty packages for a coupon or something similar. (Are they still doing that?)
Now, I’m asking you to save your wrappers from your Luna bars, Clif bars, [...]

New Page

While resting at home today, I worked on a rough, thrown-together page of photographs of my weight loss. Some time ago, I believe Ali asked me if I had pictures, so I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. It just took a sick day for me to take the time to [...]

Remember the Multisport Expo?

Well, guess who won big in the raffle?  (You know, the raffle that you signed up for when you walked in, and then promptly forgot about?)
My comprehensive biomechanical evaluation is scheduled for February 24th, and I’m looking forward to it.   Pasted from InStep’s website,  “The Comprehensive Running evaluation includes a video taped analysis of walking [...]

Baby, it’s cold outside!

Since I did not manage to get out of the house this morning to run, I came home changed immediately into running clothes. The rain had stopped, and even though it’s chilly, I thought going out wasn’t going to be a problem.
Yikes. My scheduled run was only 3.5 miles, but I [...]

Feeling better

Got the gym workout done, got day 3 of the Shred DVD done, had a nice (but a little rushed) breakfast.
I really do need to remember that I have a much better day, mentally, when I don’t snooze the alarm so much that I miss half my workout in the morning.

Some days…

It’s just not worth throwing off the covers.
I’ve been in a bad mood from the moment my feet hit the floor this morning. I got the Shred workout in (day 2!), but didn’t run. I planned to go on my lunch hour, but that time got taken over by work. Get home, [...]

This summer, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America’s endurance training program, Team Challenge, will be training for two half-marathon events:  Kona, Hawaii on June 28, and Napa to Sonoma, California on July 19.
I have set up my fundraising website, to get things going.  I’ll be updating it with some information on fundraising events as [...]

In My Ear

Recently, while running, I’ve been listening to NPR podcasts; mainly World Cafe and All Songs Considered. I had quite a backlog to go through, which made for some good listening. But I’m always looking for good running/biking music – something with a good beat, not too hardcore, not too cotton candy.
I [...]

The eve of rest

Finally! I have a few moments to write to everybody. It’s been such a busy week, just with training early in the morning, work, and family. Getting out of bed by 5:30am has been tough, and I haven’t managed it well this week. The good thing is that I didn’t talk [...]

I’ve been rising early this week to get my training in before work. By the time I have time to write something, all I want to do is sleep!
Promise to write something useful today though. Hey, at least I’ve been getting my training in, right?
