I’ve given a lot of thought to the Chicago half coming up in 12 days.  Over the weekend, I resolved that I would withdraw.  Then I ran 3+ miles on Sunday with no ill effects, and was encouraged.
However, three is not thirteen, and I don’t want to injure myself further, even if the right groin [...]

Exhaustion

Over the past several days, it has been all I could do to drag myself out of bed in the morning, even with the 5am Wing wake-up calls.  The best of intentions meets exhaustion, and I chose sleep and rest.
Saturday did involve an hour (or so) at the gym, where I did a total of [...]

Not too bad, so far

So far so good, with the leg.  I know running such a short distance isn’t too big of a deal, really, but I keep remembering the pain of the half.  I want to keep it slow still, but if I do that, I won’t be ready for the next one in just a few weeks.  [...]

Another run

Another 1.17 this morning.  Let’s see how the leg is feeling later today.

I haven’t been running.  Not much, not consistently.  I used M’s visit as an excuse, although I did manage to get in a few, short runs since the half marathon.  My last run was August 7th.
There was also State Fair.  Scott worked as a police officer there, so our normal schedule was altered.  Excuse, or [...]

Back on the horse

I got out and ran just under 2 miles this morning.  Just an easy run, nothing too strenuous.  The first mile went fine, after some wonkiness with the HRM not communicating correctly between the strap and the watch.  Second mile, well, I did shorter run/walk intervals.
Groin muscle still not happy, apparently.  But I’ll be resting [...]

4am.  Time to get up.  I never feel awake unless I shower in the morning, and race day is no different.  Denise and I had smartly laid out our things the night before, so it wasn’t a rush-rush to get dressed.  While Denise got ready, I braided my hair into pigtail braids – one down the left side and [...]

8 days to Napa

10 days to the Start!
We are in the final stretches now, and every day I get a little more excited.  This morning I ran 3.17 miles, with my mind on the pace.  I hope I’ve gotten faster, as I’d like to finish the race in 2:30.  As I think about it now, though, that might be [...]

Fundraising first:  If you haven’t yet taken a moment to donate on my Team Challenge website, and still intend to, please take a look now!  The half marathon is just 13 days away, and I need your help in order to reach my fundraising goals.
And now, the long run!  I went out at 6:30 yesterday morning, planning [...]

A little short

The title is the short story of my running life these days.
I cut Sunday’s run from 2:15 to 1:45 due to my ankle giving me some trouble at 1:00.  I cut today’s 4 miles to 3.5 because … wait for it … the ankle was giving me some trouble.  Not enough trouble to make me [...]

Thursday: 3 miles!
Doc suspects tendinitis, and that it is also irritating the ankle joint.  I’m scheduled for two bouts of physical therapy before the race, and also have purchased insoles at the recommendation of the doc.  He doesn’t believe it is dangerous for me to run on it, so that’s good.  He also said that [...]

Good news! Maybe?

I was able to make an appointment with a sports med doc for July 2.  Not ideal, but hey, better than nothing.
His nurse just called to get some preliminary information, and based upon what I told her, moved my appointment to noon, tomorrow.  She thought it best to get me in ASAP to rule out [...]

Quick update

Still not running.  Though the major pain is gone, my foot has been swollen for the past several days.  Today I have it wrapped, and iced.
I’m starting to get nervous.
